Somaliland Youth Livelihood Program

Education Development Center (EDC) and SOYVO share a similar vision concerning the strong potential of training, career counseling and work experience to improve livelihood outcomes for Somali youth: Both parties believe that market-driven learning and hands-on experience combined with mobile phone-based livelihoods information services can enhance young Somalis’ ability to find work and training—thereby improving their economic and social conditions dramatically. As a result, through a sub-award agreement with EDC, SOYVO is to develop and implement a training and placement program for literacy & numeracy, work readiness skills that supports SYLP’s goals and leverages the Souktel text messaging/online job match system.

LITERECY & NUMERACY Courses Rural AREA in Togdheer region

SOYVO started the implementation of LITERECY & NUMERACY Courses Rural AREA in Togdheer region targeted group are approximately 200 women above 15 years of age, in Odwayne, Hara-sheikh, Magalo-Yar and Qoryale, and 1000 indirect beneficiaries (it is assumed that each person will pass what she has learned to approximately 6 people from her family). Funded by Caritas


During the monitoring time the team was attended the classes and used CARITAS monitoring form of Non-Formal-Education to collect the information and sometimes it was possible to interview the students, teachers and CEC’s. Finally we conducted the level three test and fortunately at the end of the project 173 students have been completed in Magalo-yar, Hara-sheikh, Oodweyne, Qoryale.

Emergency water trucking and rehabilitation of water points,

The ongoing drought due to the failure of the Deyr 2008 is already having a significant impact on People’s livelihoods and household economy, with a high rate of livestock losses, a collapse of Livestock markets, a drastic reduction of milk production, and an increase of cereal prices. The Situation becomes more serious when moving from the village to village region to region for the whole country.

SOYVO, candle light, and CCS are Three local organizations started water distribution in Togdheer region for funding from finish organization called international solidarity foundation but this would not be enough for the people and animal they provided each village two tankers of water

BARAARUG NEWSLETTER IN BURAO

The Youth citizenship and democracy participation at Togdheer Region initiated April 2007 at the Regional level and has been growing considerably and shown results in terms of acceptability in the community and the Progress of the Youth participation
Baraarug Newsletter aims to move ahead steadfastly in the planned direction and carry forward the activities as planned and initiated. It also believes in strengthening its efforts to bring about positive changes in the Youth Participation at Local level. Though there are many needs of the Youth and requests to continue as information sharing as tools to use the news letter
Every two months we print and Distributed more than 1000 copies of Baraarug News letter, To educate and encourage youth to participate in the democratic process and other social issues by developing their potential; identifying their own needs; co-constructing strategies to address these needs; addressing the extent to which these strategies have met their needs;

SOYVO CUP IN BURA SERIAL A TEAMS

SOYVO organized football tournament Named {SOYVO CUP}, for the young people is apart of the SOYVO’s yearly activity In July, 2008. which is intended for promoting the young people and using sports in the areas of Health, and awareness raising against the youth who are traveling from Somaliald to abroad with risk of lives.

Six serial A teams from Burao district were participated the tournament Illays, Caafi, D/hoose, Nesco, Police, Daalo, held in Alamzey stadium Burao. These teams were faced each other , and The final was quite harder then Illays and Caafi Dubai and Daalo confronted the competition; the final that the spectators were waiting it was a great battle, wrestling and a hard struggle finally won by Illays While it was awarded the best team and handed the cup by the MOE representative with great triumph.

SOYVO conduct one for community Mobilization forum between in 27th -28th August 2008 held in SOYVO whole meeting for community forum with the Traditional leader, police, religious leader, human right organizations, women groups to expose them the overall objective of the project and the means of sustaining the information sharing and victim support. It was covered different important issues concern Protection issues and Improving participants’ awareness level on international child/Human Right conventions and Protection issues. funded by NRC/UNHCR

PEACE CUP IN AINABO DISTRICT

APRIL 2008, SOYVO has organized football tournament named {Peace Cuo} in every year in Ainabo. In April 2008 seven teams from Wadama-goo, oog and Ainabo were attended this tournament which held in Ainabo stadium. Our aim of this activity is to encourage individuals, youth groups and communities in the district to contemplate and communicate thoughts and sports promotion on how to achieve peace. as well creates through this opportunity awareness concerning drug abuse and the dangers of violence behaviors for the youth.
